“Raid Amazones” 2022 in Sri Lanka
The “Pieds de biche” team chooses Suravi
What is the “Raid Amazones”?
The “Raid Amazones” is the only 100% female endurance sports event where competitors go on an adventure to a different country each year to discover themselves through sport and travel, and to live a unique human experience. For its 20th year, the edition will take place in Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 !
Divided into teams of 2 or 3, 300 Amazons challenge each other for 6 days, in the early morning, in disciplines such as mountain biking, canoeing, trail, archery and other events.
In the afternoons, they will focus on meeting the local population. A human challenge above all, the “Raid Amazones” allows participants to discover the landscapes but also the culture and traditions of the people of the host country.
The “Raid Amazones” is also a solidarity event, thanks to actions in support of a local association focused on the education of children.

Who are the “Pieds de biche”?
“Pieds de biche” is Sixtine & Marie: two friends who have taken on the crazy challenge of participating in the 2022 edition of the “Raid Amazones” in Sri Lanka.
They design safety equipment at Décathlon for children learning to swim.

“Pieds de biche” and Suravi
Marie and Sixtine decided to support the Suravi association and more specifically the Wash&We♥ar project.
Wash&We♥ar is a project to make washable sanitary towels, offered free or at a lower cost to young girls, to meet a health and social need. The aim is not to interrupt their schooling during their periods and thus to give them the same chance of education as boys. This initiative also aims to create jobs as the towels are sewn locally.

More than half of the Sri Lankan adolescents responding to a Unicef study in 2015 did not want or weren’t allowed to go to school during their periods, while 37% miss one or two school days each month. For most, fear of staining, pain and discomfort are the main reasons for not going to school.
Solidarity actions of “Pieds de biche”
Step 1️⃣: Sixtine and Marie will use their skills to improve the design of washable pads, in their sewing workshops at Decathlon. When they arrive in Sri Lanka, with the help of Suravi, they will distribute them to schools free of charge.
Step 2️⃣: They will design washable towels with Sri Lankan seamstresses, which eventually will distribute to schools for free.
