Minnette de Silva was the first woman architect of Sri Lanka. Her work has included a broad range of architectural designs, from private homes and large-scale housing projects to open-air theatres and low-cost school buildings. Her buildings reflect her search for a synthesis of traditional and modern design — a regional modern architecture. She also embodied, as an integral part of the construction, the skills of local craftsmen and artists.
